Treat: How to Release Your Tension Naturally and Inexpensively
The demands in our lives feel as though they have grown many times over since only a decade ago. The pressures and anxieties of our work lives family lives, and even our own personal growth can drive our stress levels through the roof. However, nobody can continue along a path of continuously increasing stress. Sooner or later, it will have a negative impact on emotional, mental and physical health.
To make sure that you don't fall victim to that ever-looming danger zone of stress, there are some simple, natural, and inexpensive things that you can do to help yourself unwind, and remain healthy.
These include:
Listening to soothing music. This relaxes you and even alters your brain waves to a more manageable level.
Take walks alone or with someone whose company you enjoy. You'll find that your fitness level will improve and you'll find an immediate enhancement of your state of mind.
Try to avoid violent movies and bad news. Sure, you can watch the news and go to movies but try to choose a news show that isn't sensationalist and is more direct. Sensationalist news shows tend to send an "everything is going downhill" message and focus on the negative. That's the last thing you need at the end of a long day.
Eat dinner with someone special - including your family - to take pleasure in their company and good food.
Stargaze! Nothing is more awe-inspiring than the sky above you at night. Every now and again, on a clear night, look up into the night sky for a while and just let your self take in the magnificent universe.
Read a great book before drifting off to sleep. Try to find a book with a motivating or inspiring novel that you can enjoy. This will help you to wind down from work, will help to avoid that "overactive mind" we sometimes suffer from when trying to sleep and, if you choose the right kind of book, it will put you in a positive mood before you shut your eyes.
Eat healthy. There is nothing that is better for the mind than being good to your body. You are what you eat!
Write in a journal. Take the time to write down both the good and the bad. Take down opinions, observations, experiences, insights and emotions. It doesn't even need to make sense. After all, you're only writing it for you - and you know what you're talking about!
With these techniques and a good night sleep, you'll find that instead of allowing your stress levels to continue rising, you'll bring them back down and keep them well in your own control.
