If you've ever been fond of world history, you're well aware that entire civilizations have been founded, expanded, suppressed, or even destroyed based on their theological beliefs. You may know that religion played a large role in shaping the development of the world, through the Roman Empire, Religious Crusades, and even the settlement of America. If history of the world and religion excites you, you're likely to make an excellent candidate for the Historical Theology degree.
Historical Theology examines the role of religion in society throughout history, analyzing written documents, deeply held traditions, and impact on culture. Study is based on history in a general sense and theology in a particular sense. This provides a context for understanding how theology has been defined, refined, and applied over time.
