A degree in Islamic studies is earned by demonstrating superior knowledge in the principles of Islam, as well as its historical prominence and impact on world culture over time. Understanding and interpretation of the foundational texts, most notably the Qur'an, is a necessary element of this degree.
Islamic Studies focus on the application of Islam across different eras, cultures, and geographies. Because this religion is so dominant in the Middle East, specific attention is given to this region to assess corresponding aspects of economics, politics, and traditions. Students who earn this degree are able to articulate the ideals of Islam, its historical and sociological roots, and the factors that distinguish it from other world religions.
