Doctor of Theology in Religious Education

Religious Education is earned through a mastery of theological foundations as they apply to humankind. Through Religious Education, one uses these foundations to interpret the world and its inhabitants with regard to fundamental questions of human existence. Religious Education can reflect an expertise with the theological principles of a specific religion, or it can be embodied by a strong understanding of the values and philosophical beliefs of many diverse religious systems. Most often, Religious Education is viewed as an interdisciplinary discipline where a corresponding degree reflects knowledge of the major religions' history, beliefs, tenets, and traditions through an intellectual and spiritual paradigm of human thought and being.

A degree in Religious Education provides a spiritual basis for examining significant questions pertaining to the meaning of life, the value of service, and the process of life after death. These questions may be expanded to examine trends in popular culture, literature, politics, and morality. Thus, people with this degree are often well suited to teach the ethos of a particular religion or of the major world religions. This may lead to careers in education, social work, philosophy, or religious administration.
